Why wouldn’t it be okay? If the guitarist plays well, and you understand what he/she is talking about….get the lessons! Think about it too…..it’s a college person, they need the help with money, and chances are that they’ll do a decent job.
Why not test the first lesson, if it seems to work, then stick with the college student. You don’t need an actual professional to help you at something they know just as well as a professional. But I say test it first, and then go from there. Hope this helped.
That depends, does the college student know how to play the guitar?
When you first start, it probably doesn’t matter which you choose. The college student will probably be cheaper, and its best to spend less $$$ until you’re sure that you will like to play.
When you’re good enough that the answer to your question matters, then you’ll know the answer.
I would think so. Ask about their back round and training. Listen to them play as well. I have taught private violin lessons since I was in high school. It all depends on your skill and the teachers. It does not matter if they are in college or not. It’s just important that they know how to teach and are talented.
I think that if the student is experienced it should be ok..what i would do would be see if he or she has references and if so i would call and check them out to see their level of experience and see if it is what you are looking for? ..good luck…
I think it’s good to go with a college student. Sometimes if you go to a professional they drag it out so you end up paying more in the end. I think college kids are more passionate about their music anyway – and they really need money so they won’t mess around =]
idk i take mine from a dude thats like 40 but i dont think age really matters, what matters is if they know a good deal about it and if they can teach it. some ppl can play really complicated stuff but can’t teach anything (thats about like me lol i can do stuff but if i have to show someone, i get confused)
College students often are professionals. I knew a college guitar teacher who practiced for 5 hours a day. Age doesn’t matter. Depending on your age it is probably better to take from a student.
i learned bass from one of my best friends. he wasnt a pro but a start is a start. when you learn the basics, how much you practice and push yourself determines how good you’ll get.
All depends on how well he/she plays and how well he/she can teach. Some very young players are a marvel while some teachers are just frustrated musicians. Besides not just everybody can teach. You will have to judge yourself.
It depends upon how good the college students are. I wouldn’t try to teach you how to drive stock cars, and charge you money, and you ought not to try to learn that from me — I can drive, but I’m not a professional stock car racer. So, are the college students as good as a professional? How much do you want to get out of the lessons? They may be able to teach you some strings, finger placement and popular melodies (as I could tell you which was the brake, gas and clutch) but can they teach you to play like a guitar god? Mmmmmm my guess would be, probably not (or they’d be on tour right now instead of sitting in Econ 101). Sorry.
uhmm that depends if he is going to go to a guitar career than he must have alot of experince with guitar and could help you but if he just needs a job or some money and trys to selll you out u might get owned i personally go to a professional guitar teacher 1st because you can realy on them 2nd there worth the money 3rd learn more from them
but you knewver know they might be good cuz my freind is in coledge and hes a pro at guitar but some people cant teach
if i were u id go to the professional person cuz its saves alot of time
hope this helped
My mate had drums lessons from a college student and he got really good like he had been learning from someone good! The only problem was that when the teacher got a bit older he kept being unreliable and skipping lessons! He said he would call my mate back but its 2 years later and still no call. lol
Anyway if you are gonna pick one make sure he (or she) is good and reliable!

19. July 2010 at 9:50 pm

19. July 2010 at 9:50 pm
college kids…they need the money!
19. July 2010 at 9:50 pm
As long as the college student is pursuing a degree in music education. It is a good way for them to practice teaching and it is cheaper for you.
19. July 2010 at 9:50 pm
no its fine but it depends how good they are!
call ur nearest pro guitar lessons and compare prices
if the college 1 isnt that much cheaper go with the pro!!!!
19. July 2010 at 9:50 pm
sure
19. July 2010 at 9:50 pm
yes it is okay, the student probably knows much more than you there should still be a lot to learn from him/her.

If they know how to play and are good at explaining it to someone, it is probably a very good idea to get lessons from a college student
